The Yeshiva Haggadah

Yeshiva Ohr Yisrael
Book Design, Typography, Production
One of Judaism’s most well-known scriptural texts, The Haggadah, serves as a sort of ritual guide for the holiday of Passover. I produced and coordinated the creation of this new fully commentated version for Atlanta’s Yeshiva Ohr Yisrael. The work involved a massive effort to design a compact, easy to follow book that combines hundreds of insights with a multi-language presentation of the core text as well as instructional material. Given the nature and scale of this project, extensive collaboration between experts on the text, editorial teams, and the printing house was necessary.
Another aspect of the project was the creation of the Sephardia typeface, a meticulously developed revival of the historic typography of Spanish Jewry in the early 1300s. Involving the study of numerous archival scans and modern Hebrew type, the revival is one of the first of its kind. After its completion, the Yeshiva Haggadah received wide acclaim and was distributed in several releases before the holiday.
